Whirlpool Duet Washer Not Draining? Here’s How I Fixed It

I got a call about a Whirlpool Duet washer that wasn’t draining. After a quick inspection, it was clear that the pump was working fine – which meant something was blocking the drain.

Diagnosing the Problem

When a washer won’t drain, it’s usually due to something getting stuck in the drain hose or pump. In this case, I could hear the pump working, so I knew the problem was a blockage.

Fixing the Issue

To get to the blockage, I started by removing the lower panel. There were three screws holding it in place, and once those were out, I could access the area where the water drains. I carefully drained the remaining water and found that the blockage was caused by a small item that had gotten caught – in most cases, it’s socks or underwear.

Clearing the Blockage

After removing the blockage, I reassembled the washer, making sure everything was secure. Once the panel was back on, I ran a test cycle, and the washer drained perfectly.

Takeaway

If your Whirlpool Duet washer isn’t draining, don’t assume it’s a pump failure right away. Often, it’s just a small item blocking the drain. Checking for blockages and removing them is a simple fix that can save you time and money on a more expensive repair.
