Amana Washer Not Filling with Cold Water? Here’s What It Was
Got called out for an Amana top-load washer (basically an old reliable Whirlpool). The complaint was that it “wasn’t working at all,” but after a quick check, it was clear the issue was with the cold water.
The Problem
The washer would fill with hot but not cold. I tested voltage at the board—120V was getting to the cold valve, so the board was fine. The cold water valve itself just wasn’t opening.
The Fix
Swapped out the water valve with a new one, and that did the trick. Cold water started flowing again and the washer ran like it should.
Takeaway
If your washer isn’t filling with cold, check power at the valve. If voltage is good and nothing’s happening—valve’s bad. Old machines like this are super solid, and parts like this are an easy fix.

The top panel needs to be removed.

The old water valve was removed and disposed of.
