Replacing the Drain Pump on a Client’s LG Washer

A client recently called me with a problem—their LG washing machine wasn’t draining. The pump was making noise, but the water just sat there. After checking a few things, I confirmed that the drain pump had failed and needed to be replaced.

Diagnosing the Issue

First, I checked the drain filter to see if it was clogged, but it was clean. Then, I drained the remaining water using the small drain hose behind the bottom panel. Some water came out, but most stayed in the drum—clear signs of a faulty pump.

Removing the Old Pump

I unplugged the washer and turned off the water supply for safety. After removing the lower panel, I could access the drain pump. I disconnected the hoses, unplugged the wiring, and unscrewed the pump from the washer frame. A quick test with a multimeter confirmed that the pump was dead.

Installing the New Pump

The client had already ordered a replacement pump, so I installed it right away. I secured it with screws, reconnected the hoses and wiring, and made sure everything was tightly in place.

Final Test

Once everything was back together, I ran a short wash cycle. The washer filled, washed, and—most importantly—drained properly!

Another successful repair. If your washer’s pump is making noise but not draining, it’s likely time for a replacement. Fortunately, it’s a straightforward fix!
