Microwave Not Turning On? Check the Fuse and Door Switches

Came out to look at an over-the-range microwave that was completely dead—no lights, no fan, nothing. Classic case of a blown fuse.

The Problem

Turns out the fuse was shot, likely from a faulty door switch or a quick power surge. These over-the-range units rely on a few safety switches inside the door mechanism, and when they start failing, they can pop the fuse.

The Fix

I replaced the fuse and also swapped out the door switches just to be safe—common wear item that can trigger the issue again if left unchecked.

Takeaway

If your microwave suddenly won’t power on, don’t rush to replace the whole thing. It’s often just a fuse and a couple switches—quick and affordable to repair.

Microwave and hood combo, need to disassemble quite a lot.

This is exactly where the fuse is located.
