Thermador Range Not Working? A Hidden Control Board Issue

Recently, I was called to troubleshoot a Thermador range where the oven and interior light had completely stopped working. The homeowner initially suspected an issue with the power supply to the oven, but I knew there could be other possible causes.

Identifying the Problem

The first thing I did was check for power at the igniter. If the oven wasn’t heating, the igniter should at least be receiving voltage. However, after testing, I found that no power was reaching it. That ruled out a faulty igniter and pointed toward a deeper electrical issue.

One common problem with these Thermador ranges is that moisture can seep into the control board. When boiling water spills over from a pot, it can find its way through small gaps around the burners or other openings on the cooktop. Over time, this moisture leads to oxidation or even short circuits on the control board, causing various functions to fail.

Fixing the Issue

To confirm my suspicion, I disassembled the range, removing the burners and the top cover to access the control board. Sure enough, I found signs of oxidation and a burnt component on the board. The only solution was to replace the damaged board entirely.

I installed a new control board, reassembled everything, and powered up the unit. This time, the igniter received power, and the oven fired up perfectly. The interior light also came back to life, confirming that the problem was fully resolved.

Preventing Future Issues

To help prevent this from happening again, I advised the homeowner to be mindful of spills and steam while cooking. Using lids on boiling pots and wiping up spills immediately can go a long way in protecting the sensitive electronics inside the range.

If your Thermador range stops working—whether it’s the oven, lights, or other functions—it might not be the power supply. A compromised control board due to moisture could be the real culprit. Regular maintenance and careful use can help avoid these costly repairs!
